This is along the sames lines of the other posts, but with a little different scenario.

I have lots of problems with spotlighting on my property, both in and out of season, and road runners all up and down the roads in this area during hunting season. At times I have been walking up the edge of my hay field near dark and have had cars and trucks stop on the road about 100 yards away. I immediately start waving a flashlight around because I figure that the damn fools are about to take a shot at me----as if they've ever seen a deer that big!! That usually will make the vehicle move on slowly down the road. I sometimes hear shots during the night, but by the time I get awake, get up and look they are gone.

Why is it that people will stoop so low just to be able to brag about a deer? I had one guy tell me one time that he overhead a fella at a small local store bragging about shooting an 8 pointer in my field. I wish I had been in that store and heard that mad

I know that the game wardens can't be around my place all the time, so how do you handle those deals if any of you have the same problems?

Luckily for us our fields and "easy" shots are secluded from roadways so we don't have a whole lot of that going on, but, what we do have is people "slipping" in on us from time to time. They do some spotlighting down the road quite a bit and actually alot of those deer that are killed use our land for cover so technically some of "our" deer bite the dust to poachers as well.
I have our local warden on speed dial on my cell phone. I call him, his superior and even higher sometimes when I feel like nothing is being done. When the farm down the road came up for sale a few years back (still for sale by the way, 3.4 million) smile
The poachers were out in full force. They've since let the fields grow up so it makes spotlighting a little harder so the activity has slowed a bit. Biggest problem we have is people dumping deer carcassas everywhere on the sides of the road. We clean up anywhere from 10-20 carcassas a year down the road that leads to my dads house. frown

OT, try and grow something that will grow to at least 6 feet and thick, if possible, towards the road.

Thats what I would do.....just plant something really tall just encompassing the outlying areas adjacent to the roads.....making a natural fence per say. The rest of your fields can be nice and cut, but around the road you have a vision barrier that keeps them from seeing into the field.

If that doesnt work, take that damn S&W you just bought and start shooting tires when they are tresspassing on your property. Its so nice outside, you could camp out in the field and when they copme you will be ready and waiting.. hunter

I guess it's just me but what kind of enjoyment would anyone get out of shooting a deer (buck or doe or fawn) out the window or door of a vehicle? There is no way in Hades that could be considered hunting. It requires NO SKILL. It takes no effort so what enjoyment could anyone get out of that??????

I'd have to think about sitting out in some seclude part of the field and if I saw a vehicle stop I would think about touching of a round or two from a heavy caliber gun. Even if not aimed anywhere near the vehicle I bet it would get their attention. fast.

I'm going to keep a 3 1/2" 12 GA. loaded with #4 Buck ready and waiting. My problem is trying to get my self up in time to unload on their @&&!!!! hunter

Like some have suggested, I've thought about planting a row of leyland cypress, but there's so much road frontage involved that I don't know if I could live long enough for it to pay off. By the time they got big enough I'd be too old to worry about hunting-LOL I should have done it 10 years ago!!!! frown

Put a deer decoy out there and see if you can catch them shooting at it on video or at least get there license plate after they shoot and let the law do the rest.

Jug-the GW has done that in the past and busted a few. But, he can't stay here all the time. It seems they know when he's somewhere else. Also, don't get me wrong--it's not an every night kinda thing, but often enough to really chap my @xxx !!

Plus, they do it at 2-3:00 in the morning. Way too late for me to be lurking around.

The WRC has done the robo-deer thing here in the past and with good success based on what I have heard. They relly threw the book and the people they caught. I seems to me getting these people to understand you are serious about making them go elsewhere is a long term goal.

I'm not made out of money but I'd be tempetd to get one or two of the infrared game cames and see if I could get a picture of the car/truck from the license plate end of the vechicle. Hopefully with the guy out of the vechicle with a gun in his hand. smile

Best of luck.

I agree Reloader.....the commission has set up several "stings" from time to time around the area but unfortunately they can't be everywhere all the time.
